Días LXXXIII-XCII

The beginning of the week began with my last classes, Bomba de Tiempo again, and my third and final costume party featuring capes, lots of skin, and plastic masks. Lots of dancing and Austrian guy who looked just like Justin Timberlake.

Highlight of the middle of the week was, of course, picking up a taxidermied baby alligator for my friend, Alex, who had purchased it earlier in the month and wasn’t able to have it shipped.

Made me think of this:

Big Lizard in My Backyard by the Dead Milkmen, which I hereby claim as my theme song.

Went to the opening of Arte BA, which was fun and champagne-filled. Got to meet lots of artists and rad people, and hang out with my friends. Didn’t end up seeing much of the art, so returned the next day to get a fuller look. Light wasn’t great for picture taking, and I didn’t have a ton of time to slow down, so there are only a few photos below and not necessarily of the things I liked the best.

My last night was nice. Low-key. Got dinner with Belén and then met people at Ocho7Ocho for drinks. We went out dancing for a bit at Le Click.

Boarded the plane with a taxidermied baby alligator in my checked luggage, prayed for the minimal jail sentence, and got off scott free.

Un beso y un abrazo, boludos.

The end.

Días LXXXV-LXXXII

In the begining of the week, I visited the Xul Solar museum. The space was quite nontraditional and a fitting for the work of this painter/sculpture/inventor/writer. I also stopped by the Louise Crawford & Stéphan Guéneau’s “When the city sleeps” exhibit at at the VVV Gallery.

Later in the week, I visited the photography and film exhibit at Arte X Arte, the exhibits at Palais de Glace (with my friend, Flor, and her mom) including a photo show and a collection of contemporary Croatian drawings.

Went to a natural beauty products launch party and an art opening in Palermo with Flor. After the opening, I met up with my friend Victor at Congo and then headed to Zizek to dance.

Attended the first comic convention in Argetina called Viñetas Sueltas, which was fantastic. There were thee different shows. I only was able to check out two as I arrived to too late on Saturday to see the 3rd show. After finding the gallery closed, I decided to stop for lunch at a place called Los Immortales where I met a French graphic novelist named Olivier Balez and chatted with him in Spanish about life, comics, kids, and travel. He lives in Chile with his wife and his 3 month old child. Said I could look him up if I ever made it there. Rad.

In the evening I had dinner with two wonderful artists (a married couple), who ordered me a bagel in cream cheese after I had told them about the things I miss from New York (bagels were high on the list). After dinner, we picked up their 11 year-old daughter, who apparently is a fantastic gymnast. We went to a hotel and ordered submarinos and cafes, and looked at some of the husband’s work on display at the hotel.

Later in the evening, I went out with my friend Flor, which was super fun. We were on the dance floor until 6am.

Sunday, I checked out Festival Urban Art again with Lea and then got dinner with one of the dudes who works at Idealist.

The week was full of surprises, new friends and acquaintances, and loads of art.

I went to bed Sunday night thinking about how I couldn’t have asked for a better 2nd to last week. I’m excited to go home, but I’m sad to leave as well. I think it always goes this way, but all of a sudden life down here has become even much more exciting and my days more fulfilling than they had been. I feel like I’ve recently begun friendships that could become amazing, but won’t be able to develop more. Stunted growth. Or maybe they will. In the future. Who knows… Vamos a ver.
